Laxmi Navadaniyam 450 Gr
Description
Laxmi Navadaniyam 450 Gr is a 450 gram pack of navadhanya, the nine grains associated with the nine planets of the navagraha. Each grain stands for one planet, and the set is used together rather than one at a time.
The grains are set out in nine small heaps or in the compartments of a navagraha plate during a homa, sown in a pot before a wedding or a housewarming so they sprout for the ceremony, and offered at a graha shanti. Four hundred and fifty grams covers a full ritual with a good amount left over for a second.
Can these be cooked and eaten? Treat them as a ritual item. They are packed and sold for puja use, not graded and priced as cooking dals, and the eating versions of the same grains are stocked in the lentils aisle.
Which nine grains are they? The set traditionally covers wheat, rice, toor, moong, chana, white beans, sesame, black gram and horse gram, one for each planet. The pack does not print the list, so check it against your priest’s instructions if a particular grain matters.
Used in the same rituals, unhusked paddy for the kalash is stocked here too, and pooja grains and festival items carries the wood, the samagri and the thali pieces. Sold for ritual use, not as a cooking grain. Store it airtight away from damp so the grain does not spoil.
