Description

Pooja Yellow Cloth 1 M is plain yellow cloth sold by the metre. Yellow is the pitambar colour, the one associated with Vishnu, and it turns up wherever turmeric does.

It is spread under the kalash for a Satyanarayan puja, used on a Thursday for Brihaspati, laid out at a haldi function, and kept as the cloth on the mandir shelf in many Vaishnav homes. One metre covers a home mandir shelf with enough left over to wrap the offerings.

Which pujas call for yellow? Anything to do with Vishnu, including the Satyanarayan puja, Thursday pujas for Brihaspati, and haldi rituals before a wedding. If the instruction you were given simply says pitambar, this is the cloth it means.

Does the colour run in the wash? Assume it will the first time, as strong dyes on cotton usually do. Wash it on its own in cold water before it goes anywhere near a white murti cloth, and dry it in the shade so the yellow holds.

Where the ritual names black instead, black puja cloth by the metre is cut to the same length, and the rest of the aisle carries the chunri sets and the thali pieces. Wash it on its own the first time in case the dye runs, and dry it in the shade.
