Lakshmi Paddy For Pooja 200G
Description
Lakshmi Paddy For Pooja 200G is unhusked rice, the grain still in its golden husk, in a 200 gram pack. In Tamil it is nel, and it is kept for puja rather than for the kitchen.
A handful goes under the kalash so the pot stands level, a heap of it holds the lamp steady on the thali, and it is spread as a base for the coconut at the start of a ceremony. Because the husk is still on, the grain keeps its shape and its colour through the puja instead of going soft.
Why not use ordinary rice? Ordinary rice is used too, as akshata mixed with turmeric. Paddy is preferred where the grain has to stay whole and golden under a kalash or a lamp, because it does not stick or discolour the way milled rice does.
Can this be cooked? No. The husk is still on it, so it is not edible as it stands, and it is sold for ritual use. Cooking rice is in the rice aisle.
The nine grain set, navadhanya in a 450 gram pack, is used with it at a homa, and the rest of the shelf holds the lamps, the wood and the powders. Sold for ritual use, not as a cooking grain. Store it airtight away from damp so the grain does not spoil.
