Chaunsa is a Punjabi mango variety, grown mostly around Multan and Rahim Yar Khan, and it is the one Pakistan exports and argues about. It is honey sweet, low in fibre and intensely aromatic, which makes it a very different starting point from the Alphonso and Totapuri blends that Indian mango drinks are built on.

The result is sweeter and more perfumed than the Indian bottles, and noticeably less tangy. Serve it cold. It is worth buying alongside the Indian Maaza once just to taste the two next to each other, because the difference is larger than the near-identical names suggest and most people have a clear preference by the second glass.

Is Maza the same brand as Maaza? No, and the single A is the giveaway. This is the Pakistani product built on the chaunsa mango; the Indian Maaza with two As is a separate drink on the same shelf.
