Annam Samba Rava 1KG is samba wheat cracked into pieces rather than ground. Samba is a wheat variety, and godhuma rava or samba rava is what Tamil kitchens call the result.

Because the grain is cracked rather than milled, it cooks slower than sooji and stays separate instead of going creamy. That makes it the choice for a wheat upma with vegetables through it, for kichadi, and for a savoury pongal where you want to see the grains. It is more filling than sooji for the same volume.

Is samba rava the same as sooji? No. Sooji is finely milled semolina; samba rava is coarsely cracked whole wheat. Samba takes longer to cook, needs more water, and stays in separate grains where sooji goes soft and creamy.

How much water does it need? Around three parts water to one part rava, against two to two and a half for sooji, and about ten minutes covered on a low flame. Under-water it and the grains stay hard in the middle.
