Royal Cardamom Unsweetened Chai 400g
Description
Cardamom is the most easily lost of the chai spices, because sugar masks it and heat drives it off. Leaving the sugar out of a cardamom premix therefore changes the cup more than leaving it out of a masala one does: what arrives is distinctly perfumed, almost soapy to people who are not expecting it, and exactly right to people who are.
Three heaped teaspoons to a mug of hot water, stirred hard. Taste it before you reach for sugar, because a good proportion of people find this the version they actually wanted and never sweeten it at all. If you do sweeten, half a spoon is usually enough to round it off without burying the cardamom again.
Which of the four Royal tubs should I start with? Sweetened masala if you want the familiar shop bought cup. This one if you already know you like elaichi chai and moderate your sugar.
Is there real cardamom in it or flavouring? The pack lists cardamom in the blend. We report what is printed and make no claim beyond that; check the tin if the distinction matters to you.
The sweetened equivalent is the sweetened cardamom tub, and the rest of the selection holds the pan brewed options. Vegetarian. Keep the pack sealed and always use a dry spoon, because the powder clumps the moment it meets damp.
