Boost is a south Indian childhood in a pack, and its position there owes as much to decades of cricket advertising as to anything in the tin. Malted milk drinks were invented as a way of getting milk into children who would not drink it plain, and that is still exactly what they are for.
Three heaped teaspoons into a mug of hot milk, stirred hard, because malt powder clumps if you are gentle with it. It works cold as well, though it needs a proper whisk or a shaker rather than a spoon. The taste is malt first and cocoa second, sweeter and less chocolatey than a drinking chocolate, which is the difference between the two categories.
Is it the same as a drinking chocolate? No. Malt leads and cocoa follows, so it is less chocolatey and more biscuity than a hot chocolate. The two are not interchangeable.
Can I make it with water? You can, but it is designed for milk and comes out thin and oddly savoury with water. Milk is the point of the drink.
