Hawan Samidha 1 KG is a one kilo pack of short wood sticks cut for a hawan. Samidha is the wood that builds and feeds the fire in the kund, laid criss cross so air gets through and the flame holds steady.
The sticks go in first, lit with camphor or a piece of ghee soaked cotton, and once the fire has settled the offerings begin. What goes into the flame is the samagri, a mix of herbs and resins sold separately, which is why the two are usually bought in the same order.
How much wood does one hawan take? A short home hawan of half an hour runs on well under a kilo. A longer ceremony with a priest and several rounds of offerings uses more, so buy two packs if a pandit is coming and you would rather not run short halfway.
Can I use fireplace wood instead? Not sensibly. Samidha is cut short and thin so it catches quickly in a small kund, and treated or resinous fireplace wood is the wrong thing to burn indoors over an offering fire.
