Chicory root is roasted and ground like coffee but contains no caffeine, and it brings a dark, slightly bitter, almost caramel weight that pure coffee does not have. A heaped teaspoon in a mug with hot milk rather than water is how it is drunk at home in India, usually sweet. Made with water it tastes thinner than you expect, because the blend assumes dairy.
