Parle Monaco 63.3G is India’s best known salted cracker, a thin flaky biscuit finished with visible salt crystals on top. It has been in production since 1941 and the recipe has barely moved, which is why the taste reads as familiar to anyone who grew up with it.
Monaco is rarely eaten plain. It is the base for a quick canape with cheese cubes and green chutney, the partner to an evening whisky, and the biscuit children stack with butter after school. The small packet slips into a bag or a desk drawer.
